A poem for my son, who I love more than anything…
Little man, I only wish, I could hold your hand forever
And if I were the Maker, you would never have to be alone.
But I am only a man, just your Dad, and we can’t always be together..
yet you will carry me with you, in all you’ve ever known.
Trust that I love you, that can never change, from Heaven down to earth,
please know that I will always watch over you, my only little boy.
I will do this as I always have, since the miracle of your birth.
and hope that you’ll someday know, you are my pride and joy.
I pray that when I am not around, God will help you through;
and even in life’s misery, your eye’s innocence remains.
And when you step and falter, son, because we always do..
I hope that those you love, and love you too, sooth away your pains.
I know that you will someday understand, how to be a man.
I pray that you might someday know, the love of being a dad.
I wish that you will love someone, as much as you possibly can;
and hope that you do not regret, the love that you have had.
In this, I know, I will always be proud, no matter where I’ve gone..
because I am your Dad, and you’re my son and that will always be true.
And son, if there is ever anything you can put your faith on,
Daddy knows, Daddy cares, and Daddy will always love you.
