[draw-matization] This one is dedicated to our devoted school teachers. Who knew that a Beach Boys song about winning the title to a car would remind us of our current financial budget crisis?

When the uplifting fun spirit of the Beach Boys is overshadowed by an economic crisis, we hear it “from the mouths of babes”…Margaret, you can even bring the shadow of current affairs in and still show that life is full of the cute innocence of the youth, which can bring a smile to our faces. Thank you for your wonderful comic strip! :-)

WOW! So much is said with amazingly few words. I NEVER would have come up with that at her age, and during a “carefree” song. Kids really pick up on everything going on around them. Makes you wonder how it makes them feel everytime a beloved teacher, who ment so much to them, gets fired. Can’t make them feel very high on the priority list. Never thought about the 2 very different meanings to “pink” slips. Thank you for such a tender comic strip.

It is rough on kids. Hurts them the most, as you portray. Thanks.

Good cartoon. It is a shame when a teacher gets fired. I went to a private Catholic schools and they fired quite a few teachers while I was there. One teacher every girl loved because he was so good looking ended up as an instructor at a gym.

Pink slip? That must be an Americanism. Over here it’s getting your P45, and I guess that wouldn’t scan so well in lyrics (though the pop band UB40 derived their name from the old unemployment benefit form and it seemed to work for them).

  • Victoria Jenkins on Dec 7, 2011

I never would have gotten that! How did she know?!

Pink slips are somewhat traumatic when you are on the receiving end or delivering end. Our economy is rough on our children too!

  • AWritingSighting on Jan 4, 2012

Nice to inject some levity into the stressful event of a firing or layoff. Interesting double perspective.
