This poem speaks about ridding our hearts and our minds of offenses and hurt in order to live free in Christ Jesus.
I’m cleaning out my heart
I’m throwing out this filing cabinet
The only thing it does
Is help me continue my bad habit
Should someone offend me
I find myself walking down the hall
And opening their folder
I insert another page, then read them all
But Lord, You have shown me and I have decided:
I need to live free
I gotta live free
I’m gonna live free
Darkness will not have any part of me
I’m clearing out my mind
I’m chasing out these pattern-skating thoughts
Up until today
This is a battle that has not been fought
No, I just let them speak
These circling hurts, and worries and doubts
Making the matter worse
They feed my frustration and wear me out
But Lord, You have shown me and I have decided:
I need to live free
I gotta live free
I’m gonna live free
Darkness will not have any part of me
And Lord, I know that I can’t pour out to others
With all of this stopping up my well
I need to live free
I gotta live free
I’m gonna live free
Darkness will not have any part of me
