A poem reflecting on the past thirteen years of a graduating senior’s life. Originally written for my school’s baccalaureate.

It started thirteen years ago at the age of five;

Into the great pool of life we took a dive.

Years have gone by, friends have passed.

At times we’ve soared high, at times we’ve finished last.

But we made it through each grueling year,

and finally we’ve found ourselves here.

Of our youth, we’re in our prime,

But let us remember… that you can’t buy time.

It floats idly by like dust on the wind,

and follows no certain pattern or trend.

You can try all you want to stop it in its tracks,

but time will go on without looking back.

So let us follow time and do likewise,

pressing on and striving for the prize.

Don’t look back, the past lies behind:

Memories, good and bad, filling your mind.

But fix your eyes on what lies ahead,

God has plans of good for you, not of dread.

At the pinnacle of hope and ambition we stand,

while knowing that God is still in command,

and that Jesus Christ sits at His right hand,

and no matter what we go through, he will understand.

For His love is with us despite it all,

when we’re running fast or when we’ve hit the wall.

God’s love between us is a tie that can never be severed;

It will continue to last forever and ever.

So my friends, today look to the sky.

Today we’re on eagles’ wings, soaring high.

God loves you no matter what today,

and today is all you have they say.

This is true, for each day is a new day

and each new day is today.

The past is but memories frozen in our mind,

And the future comes one day at a time.

Today is each of those days.

Today is every day yet to come.

Today we press on.

Today, the love of God washes over you.

Today, what will *you* do?
