Lock and Key

You have a lock- but where’s the key?

Years ago

I hid my secrets

And my spirit

In my treasure chest

With a lock

I stowed away the key

Somewhere safe

Years later

I realized something was missing

An important part of me

Locked in that treasure chest

I went to look for it

And found it

Without the key

I looked everywhere

But missed an important part

The key was in my heart

I never realized that

No avail

I never unlocked the chest

And now I live

Without my secrets and spirit

With that key

Left in me
