My dream of finding a log cabin one day…

A hike I decided to take, alone the road today,
My eyes caught something, I thought, No Way,
Within a distance, behind trees I could see,
A small little brown cabin, sitting there would be,

Deep embedded between blades of tall, dry, grass,
Even a small batch of wildflowers I did pass,
Wanted to keep going for a much closer look,
Just one glance is all it really took,

I just stood there and continued to stare,
A bit shabby,  much in need of some repair,
A “for sale” sign listed, but was no price,
I used cell to call, left a message twice,

Continued along to finish my walk,
Finally they did call and we did talk,
Set up appointment tomorrow at seven,
All day long my thoughts on this cabin,

Woke up early, all excited to just go,
Anxiously awaiting for the Realtor to show,
To look at this cabin, of my dreams,
Hoping the cost, is within my means,

Upon her arrival we both went inside,
Along the old table my fingers did glide,
Dusty and dark, maybe a foot of dirt,

Buckets of water, and broom wont hurt,

We talk a few, then I ask the price,

Price she quoted, was so very nice,

Even though lots of work to be done,

Started filling out papers, seemed like a ton,

Now MY log cabin, oh so sweet,
A place of my own, to plant my feet,
Quickly start to pull out the weeds by hand,
Will grow flowers to brighten the land,

Go each day, I clean, and I scrub,
Buckets of soapy water, in a big tub,
Wash the walls and mop the floor,
The wood beginning to shine once more,

Continue all day, into the long, dark night,
Thanks for electricity, so I do have light,
Water even flows from the kitchen sink,
It is starting to look so much better I think,

Install a new oven, a refrigerator too,
Curtains on windows, are a soft blue,
I tire not for this is a beautiful dream,
I know in time, it will all begin to gleam,

New oak on floors, there has to be laid,
Do it myself, so less people are paid,
I do not mind, as having so much fun,
Oh my gosh, the inside is finally done,

Now for the porch, it is now your turn,
It’s just as dirty, or more, I did learn,
Winding nicely , around the whole cabin,
How messy it was, I did not phantom,

Now it is complete, how beautiful it is,
Given a waterfall statue,  by my friend Liz,
Now can rest on porch, in my swing for two,
Who will sit by me, I wonder who?…

Nice one. I think you may have to build if you want a genuine log cabin. And I promise you, they take a LOT of work to make them habitable.

Yeah, figure as much, but it is just something dream about, so if in my dream its easy, that’s even better :)

It starts with a dream. And the fact that you visualized it from start to finish gives you an edge too!! Good luck with the cabin and with someone to share it with! :)

The picture of that cabin reminds me of the cabins at a lodge my family used to go to for vacation, for many years.

kept me reading right to the end – very descriptive, lots of highly visual sections (like the fingers through dust). Is it about a log cabin or about you??

  • California Dreamer on Jul 27, 2009

Wow, thanks for all the sweet comments, and am glad it caught my readers attention. @ Revivor, the poem is a story about me, one day finding a log cabin that I have dreamed about living in my whole life.
