The author reminisces about visiting the grave of a loved one with her father, and now reflects on visiting the same grave, where her father also now rests in peace.
I stand in the same spot
As you used to do
Here at lot 70 I pray often for you
The tears I cannot stop as I remember you here
Praying to your wife and like me, you also shed a tear
The mound of soil cannot bury the truth
Here at lot 70, is where I now visit you
It’s been a long time ago since we took those rides to here
On many occasions, at least four times a year
After we’d place flowers on the many graves
Mom and I would walk to the road, as you remained at the grave to pray
Here at lot 70 I do in the same way
Yet I am still taken back to all of those days
Standing to pause for a moment with a few more tears
Looking downward with love and remembrance of someone you held dear
Traveling to lot 70, it’s hard to believe
That now I am the one who stands where you used to be
I look down with love and remembrance of someone I still hold dear
Only for me I shed more than one or two tears
Here at lot 70
Where I now visit you, here
The sunshine is warm today, the snow is melted too
Here at lot 70, winter has passed us by, but not the memory of you
I look at the statue of eternal love just as you used to do
Diagonal from where you now rest, along with Lou
Today I bring flowers, you’d love them so much
I remember how you did the same with a very loving touch
I place them respectfully just as you used to do
I kneel and I pray “Why? This happened all too soon”
Here at lot 70 the memories and pain persist
I know God takes care of you now, and the joy you couldn”t resist
However I know I can come here no matter what day
And always place flowers, then stand back and pray
Here at lot 70 it’s difficult that’s true
But I know for certain that one day I will again see you
For now I’ll visit here just as you used to do
Here at lot 70
