A narrative poem about what love is, beyong romance and lust.
Love is More
By Tony DeLorger © 2011
Were it not for the dispassionate dismissal of love lost,
I would not have found its meaning,
the true value and core of its action.
I would not have found true love.
Beyond the romantic notions of falling to emotion,
there is a truth, like a bright star in the night sky.
Love seats itself within reach for those attune to it,
but it is not just of the heart.
True love is not connected to the physical,
it resides within our soul, the real essence of our being.
It is not just an emotion but an action,
a purposeful kindness and selflessness that defies definition.
Love is no fairytale, no preconceived paradigm,
but the result of surrender and sacrifice,
the expression of deeply felt devotion and care.
Sex is rarely the expression of love, but of lust and need.
True love is making tea, opening a door and sharing thoughts.
It is standing by your side in times of illness,
making your favourite meal and letting you sleep in.
Love is more the doing rather than the feeling.
Words can never convey deep resounding love,
It can in no way describe the feeling of peace and contentment.
Love resides within us as our greatest potential,
and once found, our greatest achievement.
