As age progresses, so many think that love is only for the young…This is a view from an older perspective….The body may age, but the heart stays eternally youthful….

Loving Maturity….

Here are we, advanced in years,
mellowed, through the smiles and tears,
Wiser now, than what we were,
youth so reckless, when memory stirs…

Shades of silver in our hair,
Lines that never once were there,
The joints now ache, a little more,
no more sitting on the floor!

The candle that we use to burn.
Maybe skin that’s not so firm.
Throughout all this, we got a chance,
And found, somehow, a new romance.

The madness of youth, is now long gone,
yet love arrived, silent and strong,
The heart inside feels light and free,
Though late in life, you still found me….

So though age may bring on all its aches,
or even damage limbs we break!
Love has its story, once begun
And isn’t only for the young…..

I can see that you have put a lot of thought into this one Songbird. The flow of your poem brings all these thoughts together to show that love can come much later in life and not always in the early days of youth. Lovely poem, I am looking forward to reading more of your work ….;-)

Thank you Richard. So much is made of the young falling in and out of love, that I decided to change the perspective a little….I thought that this would be a nice twist on it…Wry humour mixed in with a mature romance….I am very glad that you liked it….thank you for your very kind and generous comment…/x

I think when love come’s in later life you are likely to stay together cos you both know what you like, want and need.
Nice poem thank you for sharing.
