Hatred is a disease that is age-old, some of which date back centuries, such as antisemitism that had its roots in Rome, soon after Christianity had been replaced by paganism, some, much later, in the United States where slavery and color prejudice were glaringly prevalent; others, through religious doctrines, such as fundamental Islam. The virulence of hatred can be calculated in tragic terms, through persecutions, forced conversions and expulsions, all of which are well-recorded in the annals of history. In spite of this age of Enlightenment, such forms of hatred may not be totally abolished, and continue to sporadically exist in many parts of the world.

There is a malady severe.
So virulent that one
Might ne’er recover ever from,
Until ones life is done.
It spreads so rampantly around
Festering as it grows,
Infecting both the strong and weak
And victimizing those
That are but dangerously exposed
To its contagion vile,
Spreading around progressively
To poison and defile.
It focuses on who might me
Untainted and serene
Surely turning them around
To be but monstrous, mean!
What is this malady of old,
Born of the untamed past,
Recurring unrestricted, free,
That must its shadow cast
Upon our cherished, human plane?
Nothing, indeed, can prove more true
That man through all his efforts can’t
Explore the slightest clue.
