The most noble of flowers.

Let Heaven crown the Marigold,
The glowing head and stem beneath.
Let it rope rain ‘round it
Like noble Caesar’s laurel wreath.

May it frighten snake from grass
And bless each seed to life,
And shield it from hardship;
The blade of Brutus’ knife.

Granted the rows don’t waver
And the mounds don’t clump in pairs,
There will be no fear of finding stalks
Broken upon the stairs.

In this fashion faith will hold
And no drop or drought dismay,
The shining star in glory garden
That Heaven dare not betray.
