Marlon

by

Susan Reichert

Watching you on celluloid wondering

if you’re like the character you’re playing

or if you created the personality and took

him as your own.

Perhaps you are giving us multitudes

of clues into you the person, are we

quick enough to see into your methods.

You could smile or cry, scream or yell and

we would stay to be near you rather than

run away. We knew you left a part of

you with each spirit you created.

Sometimes you were arrogant and

snobbish, then you would show us

your sense of humor, quick wit and

and lest we forget that impishness

you possessed.

Your dark sultry looks would pull us in

and then you would show us that

smile that would melt our hearts. The

eyes would grab hold and not let us

go.

I cannot imagine the pain you had

in your life, emotional or physical.

Did you deal with it, or ignore it. There are

those who say one or the other, some who say

both. The loss of your child hurt most of

all. Did it end the Marlon we knew or

release the true one to finally be free.

No one was ready for you to go, some said

their goodbyes and others said we’ll meet

again. All had one thing in common, they

did not want to let you go. But we can’t

hold on to one who is truly free, it is not

achievable. So we set you free to soar

in the heavens and move with the wind

until we meet again.

How touching. We can know our heroes from a distance.

Sentiment, imagery and pacing are excellent.
