No one mentions how bad things can get.

Hating life
is a new concept to me
being a wife
is not always filled with glee
in the beginning
everyone leads you to believe
love will guide you
through everything
however shortly after
you hear wedding bells
life turns a chapter
and all you hear are screams and yells
trying to remember
the good times you had
coping with
all the negative and bad
you try to pretend
wearing a mask
wanting everyone to believe
your in wedded bliss
in reality
your heart has been ripped apart
who knew
you were marrying a shark
someone who is incapable of feeling
and without caring
continues stealing
steals your heart, mind, body, and soul
devours you whole
how can you ever get out of this mess
you have no where to go
you have children
and don’t want them to know
so you continue to pretend
playing charades
wearing your mask
and hiding in shame

I like it Jane. It could be very deep or it could just relate to the everyday growing pains of a marriage that seem terrible, then pass. It depends on how you look at it and a good writer can always make a person look at things in more than one way. Great work!

I agree with the comments above and love your open tone in the poem.

Sad but true, I have had some of those feelings myself.

You’ve nailed it completely on the head. Been there, done it, but after awhile that mask starts to fray and gets withered. I think the main people you wear it for is your kids. Little did I know until they were older what they really knew. Thanks for sharing.

Oh my, I would really hate not being able to be myself.

A very deep emotional poem. Well written. You have to sometimes measure your losses in order to live your life in happiness. If you’re as miserable and your poem stated, it would be better for you to seek a reasonable solution in your relationship. In the long run it would also be better for your children too.
