The Horse Race that stops a nation.
Melbourne Cup 2001
Running the cup will stop a nation
Elections and war won’t make a difference
This one will give the nation hope
Of how important it is to have a Melbourne Cup.
Bart Cummings can’t hold the Cup this year
He doesn’t have a runner for 2001
No runner but Bart’s presence will sure be felt
At Flemington
The time has come for the big handicapper to
To give the punters a go.
It’s time to stick a pin in the formguide
Have a champagne breakfast
And later in the day we will strangle a cold beer
And hope the battlers have a win and not only the barons.
The big run is over
We hope the horses stay well & happy
In their floats they’ll go back to their stables
And look forward to a roll in the sand
The horses will know the big run is over for a year.
