Pakistan People’s Party United Kingdom has welcomed the amalgamation of Barrister Sultan Mahmood Chaudhry’s led Peoples Muslim League into the PPP and expressed hope that this union will boost the party’s chances at the next parliamentary election in Azad Kashmir.
“
We are very happy at this development which will give a big boost to PPP in Azad Kashmir at the next polls”, PPP UK chief Hassan Ahmed Bokhari told a news conference on here on Thursday evening. He described the recent decision by Barrister Chaudhry to dissolve his party and merge into PPP following his meeting with Prime Minister Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani as a ‘wise one’ which will benefit all.
Bokhari said the People’s Muslim League has a substantial followers in the UK Kashmiri community and by merging itself with PPP, it has further lent strong voice to the Kashmiri Diaspora.
“With this development, PPP-UK will emerge as the biggest spokesman of the Pakistani-Kashmir community in Britain”, he stressed.
Bokhari said the party will also undergo re-structuring in the UK and leading members of erstwhile People’s Muslim League will be accommodated accordingly and given prominent positions.
The chief co-ordinator of former PML Chaudhry Majid Ismail said the decision of Barrister Sultan Mahmood Chaudhry has been endorsed by the party workers in the UK and Europe as well.
He said all those associated with the former party will now play their due role in consolidating PPP in the UK.”We do not want to be a mere slogan raising members but will play a important role in jointly enhancing the Kashmiri voices in the UK”, he added.
Bokhari also spoke on the political situation in Pakistan and said President Asif Ali Zardari believed in the politics of consensus and respects the mandate of all parties in the Parliament.
He was of the view that the current situation in Pakistan does not warrant any mid-term polls and all political parties agree that the present Government should complete its five-year term and thereafter leave its fate at the hands of the electorate.
However, before that, he said, the next electoral test will be the parliamentary elections in Azad Kashmir due sometimes in the middle of 2011.
He said PPP will continue to play its leading role in the promotion of Kashmir cause.
