While working in retail I was instructed to tell customers “Happy Holidays” so as not to offend anyone. Signs are posted every where stating “Merry Xmas”. Jesus told us that we can only serve one master, and this may be one of these times. I refuse to say Happy Holidays or shorten Christmas to Xmas. What is Christmas without Christ?

Three wise men came travelling from afar
Their only guidance was given from a star

Shining brightly for the world to see
The tiny babe, God’s gift to you and me

There was no other gift dearer to His heart
Than that of His son, that He could impart
He let us know Him by His word & deed
Then we come to Him complaining with greed

Wanting money to buy for people on our list
Acting as if the Christ child never did exist
It must hurt Him to the core to see His children act this way
At least say “Merry Christmas” upon this Christmas day!!

I must say I totally agree with you and do try to remember the true meaning of Christmas, though it is not always easy when you go out into the high street.
You have done a wonderful job of bringing the message home. Well done.

    Merry Christmas

    Christine

I must say it’s a delight to see others with the samae attitude!
What do you have when you take the Christ out of Christmas?

  • trishia on Dec 7, 2008

oops I mispelled “same” in my previous comments. Hats off to you again.

  • Judy Sheldon on Dec 7, 2008

Trishia, I do that all the time. Half the time I get my security string wrong, but never when I make a typo in my comment. lol

Christmas without Christ isn’t even a Hallmark holiday. lol.

Take care, God bless & Merry Christmas!

The ‘Happy Holidays’ thing upsets me! In UK we are not allowed to discriminate on grounds of race or religion and I think that this is correct, but nobody has stopped to think that banning Christians from saying, ‘Merry Christmas’, and not allowing the nativity display in public places is restricting OUR religious freedom.

I really enjoyed your poem…and Christmas without Christ is just ‘mas’. In English, this has no meaning whatsoever which is true if we leave Christ out of our celebrations…and in Spanish, this means ‘more’ which is what the holiday season description needs in order to make sense!
I’ve often wondered…how can you celebrate someone’s birthday and ignore Him all at the same time?

  • The Daily Digital on Dec 8, 2008

    Very inspirational!

I’m a little late reading this one but my hat’s off to you, Judy.
Amen is all I can add.
Jan and I are fed up with all the hype that Christmas has become. And don’t give us presents…it’s not our birthday…it’s baby Jesus’s birthday.
