This is a poem for a children’s book.
I once had an inanimate pet just for my Mom and me;
I called him Mickey Chickpea.
He never got old and died; you see.
He wasn’t really a fun pet;
But, he never had to see a vet;
And he never got annoyed if he got wet.
He didn’t receive love and didn’t give love to anyone;
He wasn’t really a very good son;
Kitties are really so much more fun.
He didn’t cuddle, and he didn’t purr;
He didn’t have any soft fur;
We didn’t have any adventures.
We never really communicated;
He never grew up and dated;
He didn’t make me very elated.
He wasn’t very energetic;
Not at all was he athletic;
In fact, he was a bit pathetic.
He never gave kisses or hugs;
He didn’t have fun chasing bugs;
He didn’t lick my coffee mugs.
He never, ever ate anything;
He never inspired me to sing;
He never made me feel as happy as if I had wings.
He never liked to run and play;
He never had much to say;
He was pretty dull in every way.
That’s why I appreciate my cats;
Though, they are a little bit bats;
At least, they keep away the mice and rats.
I love my kitties so very much;
They are so very soft to touch;
But, I wish that we all could jump rope double dutch!
