The inspiration for this piece came from reading a piece done by James De Vere. As I was writing a comment, I remembered a ghostly encounter I had while traveling. Perhaps only in my mind, but when I was in my motel room I saw my love one, praying by the bed.
Time at home so meager,
Time together, so elated.
Effort to return, so eager,
Travel nerves so grated.
Above the clouds once more,
To a city never been before.
People never see again,
Graciousness, all pretend?
Lost amongst new surrounds,
Familiarity, none found.
Wishing, thinking, home in mind,
Wishing, thinking, he was mine.
He is not, cannot replace,
That which I see the face.
Face in my mind, face in my thoughts,
Stranger I see, stays in vacant lot.
Mine is miles away, miles away.
Mine is with me, here to stay.
Distance not enough to divide,
Distance goes like the tide.
Alone I go to empty room,
Empty room I would assume.
Assume is vulgar, shouldn’t be,
Who could be there, maybe he?
There by my bed he kneels and prays,
We look at each other, eye to eye.
Not a word spoken, nothing to say,
For in an instant he left, goodbye.
You see, he is here.
Where ever I stay.
In my mind, all so clear,
Hearts united, we cannot stray.
