At as early as fiv,e if one travels on the highway passing the Blue Hole River Sandy Bay in Jamaica, clothes are seen hung out to dry. It makes one wonder when and how these men and women were able to wash them. It is a mystery, just as the legend of the golden table from which a special part of the river got its name, “Gold Table Hole”.

Early morning five thirty
And the barb wire fences
Stand decorated with colours
Of green, red, blue, black and beige.

Sun not yet risen, river emitting frost,
Grass wet with dew, morning breeze chilly,
What motivate women and men to go wash
In the Blue Hole River before the break of day?

Hawks eyes they must possess,
Are they so allergic to dirt that they
Wash and hung to dry a line of clothes
Three cricket pitch long before dawn?

They carry no bottle torch,
For no torch could withstand
The strong gusty morning breeze or the chilly
Mist rising just before the break of morn.

It seem a mystery to see at 5::00 am
Tubs turned down and clothes hung out to dry,
Did these women come to see the golden table rise?
As years gone by just before the break of light?

A legend fulfilled.
