There are times when we need to remove the false reflections in our life and concentrate on the ones we cannot see in the mirror.

Mirrors

When you face the mirror
it doesn’t show
the things that lie inside

so turn your back
and take a step
reveal what it may hide

You may think it says you’re old
a painted pictures’ yesterday
youth, or body thin

don’t believe what eyes may see
for all that matters
lies within

Reflections tell a different story
remembered pasts, when in your glory
longing for another time

but they can’t wipe
the tears away
or hold a love sublime

If you had the chance
to  never look again

would you feel the same
and wonder
when did life begin

If beauty shined
beholder’s eyes
we’d see ourselves the same

criticisms less and less
no longer playing
its shadowed game

Next time you stop
to face the mirror
the reflection that you see

never can compare the truth
your heart it could never be

A very meaningful poetic directive to cause one to contemplate his image and perhaps rethink the reflections of his life. Well written and purposeful poem.
