Modern families have evolved in American society that at one time was largely heterosexual with the man being the head of the home. They presently consist of the straight, gay, interfaith, interracial, married, and cohabitants, sharing the responsibilities in their homes.
Modern families have taken shape
After all of these years
They are a mixed breed
With many characteristics
- – -
It is not like the past
When the man was
King of the castle
Where his wife labored
With the children
And he brought
The bacon home
- – -
Modern families are straight
Others are gay
Some are interfaith
Others are interracial
Some are married
Others are cohabitants
- – -
However, many couples
Are working these days
They both share
The responsibilities
Of raising the children
- – -
They do the housework
Cook, clean, and wash the dishes
Drive their children to events
Have friends with similar values
Develop support systems
On which they can rely
- – -
They take care of themselves
Try to eat right
Exercise as often as they can
Go on vacations together
Keep attuned with their faith
They basically tend to be happier
In a more diversified America
