A swarm of beautiful monarch butterflies seen one afternoon, and my impression of them. A poem.
MONARCH
On wings of orange and ebony,
Flight of the fans so light and free,
Velvety touch, and fair of sight,
Alighting gently, stopping flight,
Nectar’s sweetness from blossoms bold,
Heaven’s ambrosia – ‘midst blooms’ fold,
A gift to one so bold and rare,
Spectacle seen when in the air,
Wandering waves of orange delight,
Spring shares its beauty – and this sight,
Dance ‘cross field – flower to floret,
Bright wings pure with nature’s palette.
