Olympic poetry. I wrote this after learning about the events of the Olympics in Montreal in the summer of 1976.

It was Montreal’s turn, to host the grand event,

The Gymnastics saw Nadia deliver a perfect ten.

The greatest performance, that we’d seen,

All of this delivered, by a girl of fourteen.

The curtain was raised, on July seventeenth,

Some famous names included, Sugar Ray competing for the boxing team.

Wilkie was Great Britain’s, only highlight in the pool,

He broke the 200m, record, in order to win it after all.

The creator of the London Marathon, walked off with a 10,000m bronze,

While on the track, Moses won the 400m hurdles to show that he belonged.

The 100m events, were won by Richter and Crawford respectively,

Many records were broken, in all actuality.

The Montreal Olympics left us, with many memories,

The Maple Leaf Flag is still flapping, in the breeze.

The Montreal Olympics left us, talking for a long time,

It just wasn’t ready, to be left behind.

The Montreal Olympics, known for the perfect ten,

It would take a massive effort, to improve on them.
