A poem for my wife.
I promise to let you to continue to pluck my heart strings
Just like you would a guitar
Making music as beautiful as a bell’s ring.
I promise to hold your hand if you’ve had a bad dream
And stay up with you until you fall back to sleep.
Even if it means waiting for the sun’s beams.
And, if you ever get cold, I’ll go to the thermostat and crank it
Or, if we’re in bed, I’ll move closer to you
Just so you can have my share of the blanket.
Even though I don’t like shoe shopping, I promise to do it with you without dispute
And I’ll even send you a picture via text message
If you’re not with me and I come across a great pair of boots.
If you are in a dressing room, I promise to hold your purse.
And, if you want me to get on stage with you
I’ll sing karaoke, even if we haven’t rehearsed.
I promise to be the husband, friend, lover and father you need me to be.
And, if you ever need me to be more than that.
I’ll do what it takes; you won’t see me flee.
I also still promise to tell you I love each day
And, just in case you don’t hear me or don’t believe me
I promise to tell you many more times so you understand I’m still here to stay.
