Olympic Poetry written about the 1980 Olympic Games held in Moscow.
The games were marred, because of frosty relations,
Outside influences, affected some major nations.
The track would see a battle, between Coe and Ovett,
Both men took the gold medals, albeit in separate events.
Swimming in the pool, saw Goodhew take the gold,
The Americans were absent, what could’ve been we’ll never know?
Controversy in the gymnastics! Saw a split decision,
Comaneci only took the silver, thanks to a judge’s collision.
Only eighty-one nations, competed in the end,
Wells The Flying Scotsman! Took the one hundred-metre event.
Yifter from Ethiopia, took the honours in the five and ten,
The closing ceremony took place, on August 3rd and it was over then.
Moscow the host 1980, welcome to the games,
It would be a bit different this time, but what’s wrong with a change.
Moscow the host 1980, you have to believe you can win,
This is the greatest show on earth! So let it all begin.
Moscow the host 1980, it left us with many memories,
A truly great games, before the torch headed for Los Angeles.
