Poem/story of forbidden love, and its long term consequences…..

The shearing season was in full swing,
she was mustering sheep doing the normal things,
and as she entered the shearing shed door,
couldn’t believe what she saw…..
looked at the shearers on the shearing stand,
they had just finished for the day,
there stood that ugly old man,
slowly he turned and looked her way…..

Everyone greeted her with respect,
she paid the wages she was the boss,
knew them all but except,
the one that seems to be at a loss…..
She asked who was the new fella,
they called him kong and they all laughed,
because he looks like a gorilla,
and they think he’s daft…..
They started acting like apes and pulling faces,
she chastised them and said it wasn’t funny,
they looked with surprised glances,
as she paid them their money…..
Learned one of the regulars couldn’t come,
so they got him to fill in,
even though he’s old he’s still a gun,
and he’s stronger than all of them…..
They told Maria don’t bother paying him,
where he goes there’s no place to spend,
said they would spend it at the pub for him,
once again they all laughed with vim…..
She again chastised them all,
they picked up their gear and started to leave,
she lingered at the shearing shed door,
waiting for kong to appear…..
She said hi your left high and dry,
all the others have long gone,
he sure was some massive guy,
she could see he looked very strong…..
He looked at her and said must go,
she wondered whats up with this man,
she grabbed his arm to give him his dough,
placed his wages in his hand…..
Told her he didn’t go to town,
as the others treated him as a clown,
due mainly to his size and looks,
and didn’t want to put anyone down…..
At last she heard him talk,
said he had a long way to go,
its about a three hours walk,
but then you already know…..
She agreed and asked him to stay,
you gave shelter and comfort for me,
just this once I’d like to repay,
and offer hospitality to you this day…..
He gazed at the distant mountain,
then he heard her voice again,
please its getting late it’ll soon be dark,
and this is just as good enough place to park………to be continued…………..
