Poem/story about forbidden love,in a very difficult time….

‘Rangi’

Over the following months Maria would learn,

from Rangi about Maori’s and their ways,

many things she would discern,

sometimes they would talk for days…..

Learnt about their customs and tongue,

their history and spiritual belief’s

about the sufferings and grief’s,

the terrible things that were done…..

She did learn a little in school,

back then interests in Maori’s was not shown,

they rarely mixed in the same pool,

the Dutch kept to their own…..

By now a very close bond was forming,

between the two women,

Rangi was asked to live in,

it would prove to be a lasting union…..

Though pregnant and a solo mum,

she had two other older children,

they were being raised by her parents,

among Maori’s this was normally done……

They would become very dear friends,

Rangi would have a self contained unit,

and to household chores would attend,

she would raise her new child within…..

Rangi and Kong were of different sub tribes,

told Maria he came from a very proud line,

its been passed down through the elders and scribes…..

in his line will come something Divine…..

Then Rangi would smile and laugh,

saying the old people must be daft,

he cant even get himself a wife,

that mountain seems to be his life……

Maria related about the strange sight,

by a flowing stream and strange seam,

and the affect of the sunlight,

bouncing of the mountain onto the stream…..

Rangi spoke of a terrible conflict,

that took place near there,

you are one of a very select few,

to be a witness to such a view…..

It is spoken about in chants and songs,

that a princess will come,

to help our people through their wrongs,

and a mountain will rule as our kingdom…..

I think we already have the mountain,

but many doubt we’ll ever have a princess,

a few elders left still maintain,

we will have a measure of success…..

Maria was very grateful indeed,

both were aware of their womanhood,

and the feeling’s of another deep need,

something both women understood………………to be continued…………………

I guess all countries have had this problem of classes of cultures with few exceptions which are experiencing it now. This reminds me very much of the history of my country America and what we European immigrants did to the native Indian tribes.

A wonderful blending of cultures in friendship going on. The bridges you are building with this story of love, cultures and nationalities is commending. A very heartfelt read indeed. The chapters stand alone but the whole “Mountain of Love” together, works of natural beauty and life’s meaning.

My style is quite different but I like it. I will have to back up and start at the beginning. Take a look at one of my novels, Christy is not a good example because i am not done with linking it yet. Links to the others are at the bottom of it. I think The night Sniper and The hnadshue sect are complete.

These have first / previous / next links on each chapter and the first chapter has links to all of the chapters and my other novels.

This (I think) makes them easier to read. I play with a lot of “what if” things which Christy is a prime example. “What if an astronaut was badly injured in space with no way to get them down quickly?”
