Poem/story about forbidden love in a rural setting.

Some big changes were happening on the farm,

Maria now wanted Kong to live there,

her daughter was concerned and alarmed,

her son said it was his mum’s affair…..

Marie and her husband Johaan,

had a new house built on the land,

Maria thought it was a great plan,

could always do with some extra hands…..

Maria along with Rangi and her baby,

Lived together in the homestead,

these days Maria was a very happy lady,

like a new deck was being played…..

Her son Duphur worked for a law firm,

lived with his wife and daughter in town,

they were always around,

their family life was their main concern…..

Their Dutch traditions they’d try and maintain,

though many changes were taking place,

younger generations are not the same,

life and times moves at a different pace…..

But Kong still lived alone,

the valley of tears was his home,

Maria took the beast out of the man,

couldn’t take the man of his land…..

With all her heart she’d beg and plead,

she offered him her world,

but he paid no heed,

his blood belonged to the valleys soil…..

Spent most of his time on the mountain,

was a natural with his physique and knowledge,

was a guide for hunters and tourists,

he roamed the mountain right to the edge…..

Looked after the valley for his people,

like a shepherd caretaker and protector,

they were the church he was the steeple,

a direct line to the last survivor…..

Maria offered her share of the farm,

she had a plan to unite their lands,

and to have him forever in her arms,

for now she wanted no other man…..

Kong spoke quietly and related a story,

had been a soldier in the vietnam war,

was young and wanted to win glory,

to kill every viet cong he swore…..

Was captured tortured and beaten,

but he would not tell about his friends,

they cut his face from end to end,

from his forehead to his nose and chin…..

This land is not mine to share with you,

I can only give what you give to me,

I’am loyal and will never leave here,

but my love is your for eternity…..

When your away I lie torturing in pain,

my heart is being cut the same way,

I look at the mountain and pray,

it will chase you here again like that first day…………………to be continued…………..

I need to go back and pick up on all the chapters I have missed. :)

Hi ashan1614 yep if you actually want to get the full gist of the poem/story,you need to read it from chapter one,as sometimes these later chapters will refer back to past chapters, even sometimes right back to the very first chapters, and why the mountain is one of the focal parts of the poem/story…plus the Maori history, the farming aspect, the families that are involved, along with the drama, and love of everyday living in this rural setting….but only if you want to….its alot to read and the end is no where in sight….well as yet anyway…thank you for your comments here, and also to all the other writers here too, thanks very much…..

Their lands, their homes, and their hearts; how can you choose to separate our sweet couple in changes beyond the forces of their control? Wonderful works that are worth reading from beginning to end. Thank you for continuing to share their happiness and sadness with us.
