Poem/story of forbidden love, and its final acceptance is always difficult to handle.
Inter-racial marriage between different cultures,
is very difficult to accept between both families,
sometimes even among their own,
it can make us feel prone……..
Whilst there are many factors to consider,
brought about by man’s traditions,
they forget the main overrider,
love which has no partitions…….
By now Maria’s family relented,
had accepted the facts of the matter,
they all fully consented,
no more dissension’s or harmful banter…..
The marriage date had been set,
arrangements were now in place,
a portion of land had been let,
for kong from his Maori race……
Some in the Dutch community,
didn’t agree with such a marriage,
although many could see this union,
as a beginning of a new age……
There will always be some ill feelings,
about whats happen in the past,
of misconception’s and bad dealing’s,
some bad feeling’s maybe put down at last…….
Many misgiving’s and fear’s were laid to rest,
Kong and Maria were open to all,
were aware of the trials and tests,
were ready to make that call…..
Though of different cultures and background,
they were very experienced with life,
both were mature and sound of mind,
knew what they wanted as a man and wife……
He was in his sixties she late forties,
were in a timeless state,
their ages knew no boundaries,
they were flowers that bloomed late……
Kong’s family and tribe,
saw this as a sign and blessing,
they would welcome the new bride,
and hoped its a princess she’s carrying……
Maria and kong along with Marie,
and other members of the family,
and including Rangi,
all planned for the day and big hangi……. (Maori traditional food)
It was agreed the marriage ceremony,
would include both traditional ways,
all arrangements to take place in harmony,
would be a beginning of a new day……
The official part of the wedding,
would take place at the homestead,
all was being catered for such a meeting,
It was where Maria’s parents were wed……
Marie and Rangi were to be bridesmaids for the day,
two little grand daughters as flower girls,
Duphur her son would give her away,
Maria was already in a whirl……

The second part would be on Kong’s marae, (Maori meeting place)
after traditional welcoming and speeches,
all would be treated to a traditional maori kai, (hangi and seafood)
to Maori songs dances and more speeches……
Then finally to a large marque tent,
set up to the side of the marae hall, (large dinning place)
where the dancers and singers would be sent,
and a happy occasion enjoyed by all…………………..to be continued…………
