Loons (the bird kind) mate for life. They are the symbol of communication in Indian lore. This is about a loon not so faithful and hence has chosen a life always mourning their mate without understanding it was meant to live a life with one faithful loon whom he has discarded.

…mournful loon

it is you that has

             drifted

—away from

       still waters

     and

moonlit togetherness….

mournful loon why do you search,

why do you groan,

until the morning light—

—were it not for your

    free-will—

all waters are faithful

to bring back

your life-time mate….

mournful loon

i hear you calling

      but

i’m where i should be

   and you are where

you said

you wouldn’t….

….mournful loon…..
