London 1940’s.
The old slums of London were being torn down,
New factories were built on the outside of town,
This is what’s needed for lower class employment,
Higher wages means better housing and much more enjoyment.
Also these estates created part time work for woman and men,
Such as driving, selling, electricians and skills with the pen,
This set the scene for a better standard of living,
But local authority housing was built in the hope they where giving.
The extra pool of labour would attract finance and growth,
Like industry, white collar work, unskilled labour, work for them both,
But the industry never appeared and ripped a big hole,
In unemployment, poverty, large families and claiming the dole.
So what had happened to this new housing plan,
People came from the slums, to get work for the man,
But in the end the only changes that were made,
Back to poverty and slums as the dreams of men fade.
