A love found and lost.
Got there late at night.
A little city where you only could see the lights
From far.
The stars were blinking and
I could hear the waves of the sea splashing against the shore.
I felt like they were speaking to me –
Quiet, but strong words whispering in my ear.
It would only be a summer long,
Only a short time of my life
Didn’t know it would happen, but it did.
Came to me like a quiet melody
My ear couldn’t hear at first,
But when I finally realized
It almost made my heart burst.
We like each other from the first time we met:
We shared thoughts, we laughed
And our hearts danced.
Sometimes we would watch
old couples holding hands
And I was wondering –
Was love really lasting to the ends?
We would walk along the sea,
Sit at the beach,
Drawing silly things into the sand,
And my heart would beat faster
If he accidentally touched my hand.
There were those quiet moments
Where none of us said a word,
Silent understanding that couldn’t be heard.
Slowly a tender bond was growing,
Growing to a love you can’t imagine,
Yet unfulfilled – and my heart was broken.
Every word he said, every smile he smiled
Was carved into my heart
With him not knowing…
And then all of a sudden he was gone,
Leaving me there with things undone,
With words never spoken.
I didn’t know it then,
But the love of my life that I had found,
Twisted my world around.
So there in Mumbles I was again.
Aching, breaking,
Listening to the sound of the waters coming in.
Looking at the sea and the sunset and the stars,
Waiting for some comfort for my pain,
But I could only feel the cold night,
Nothing else seemed anymore to be bright.
He was gone – the love of my life,
And left me all alone at
Mumbles.
