A noir style poem based on the movie “Touch of Evil” with Orson Welles and Charlton Heston. Describes the scene where Quinlan kills Grande.

Clinging to the shadows,
Cloaked in black.
Both parties in the dark,
Figuratively and literally.
Both parties emerging slowly.
The air thickens,
Laced with the stench of liquor
And death.

Clouded judgment,
Determination and certainty
Break through the haze.
Tonight something is going down,
The elimination of a threat.

Realization dawns,
Out in the open,
Bathed in light,
Intentions crystal clear

Panic grips and overwhelms.
Frantic, searching for escape.
No way out.
A rat,
Trapped and in a frenzy.
Blinding lights-
Flash!
The bedroom window-
Smash!
A desperate attempt.
Pandemonium erupts.

A struggle ensues,
Futile and fruitless.
The abyss rushes up fast
Bringing near
The end.
Once again
Dark.
Nothing.
Death.

Shadows of the tussle
Etched on the face,
Dancing in the blank,
Lifeless eyes.
The only remaining evidence
Of the otherwise clean,
Nearly perfect crime.

The deed is done.
A deafening silence
Rings through the room.
The air thick
With sin,
Fear,
Murder.
