About my dad, who I didn’t meet and get to know until I was 25 years old.

My dad, the man that was never given a chance

the man that I thought about with every second glance

the man that I never even knew existed

and now to know the truth,  the story is so twisted

you see my mom and dad they were just kids

and who could make him leave first, they were taking bids

he was never a problem until they knew I was coming along

thats when my life became a sad country song

They pushed him out and kept him away

when all along, what if I had wanted him to stay

what if they cheated us out of a life that we both wanted to live

and maybe I wanted the kind of childhood that he wanted to give

Maybe if they had allowed him to stay, I would have never been hurt so much

maybe my whole life I wouldn’t have  been afraid of every sight, smell, or touch

maybe as an adult I might be able to trust people at least a little

and not express my feelings by writing these stupid little riddles.

Now in the small amount of time that I have known my dad

he is the greatest person in my life that I have ever had

He is my dad, my hero, my counselor, my advisor, my friend

for him, my right arm I would lend

I just need him to know that all I want from him is just to be there

that is all I have ever wanted is just for someone to truly care

care about me and not all the material things I can give them

and I know that is not how it is with him.

He loves me for who I am, and I don’t have to earn his love and affection

and I think that is why we make such a great connection

I feel like a little girl again, finding myself wanting to hug him and never let him go

A father’s true love at last I can know

Now that I have him, I am going to hold on

Be there for him at any time, even if it’s the crack of dawn

I’m going to be the best daughter I can be

and for the rest of our lives its going to be all about my dad and me!

I love you dad!!
