How Darby O’Gill met King Bryan, inspired by the movie “Darby O’Gill and the Little People”.
One night beneath a silvery moon
The leprechauns danced to a magical tune.
This was sight I’d not seen before.
I’d only heard stories and rumors and lore.
There was King Bryan deftly playing his fiddle,
while they danced ‘round like water drops on a hot griddle.
My wide eyes took in all the treasures untold,
fine pearls, sparkling rubies, and silver and gold.
It’s most certainly true those wee men like their whiskey.
They drink it like water and it makes them quite frisky.
Then King Bryan yelled and each mounted a horse.
They rode into the night; ‘twas their fox hunt of course.
I watched as the magical mountain door closed.
My eyelids grew heavy and I must have dozed.
I faintly remember hearing King Bryan’s voice.
He said, “I’ve cast a spell on you. You’ve left me no choice.”
“You’ll remember the magic and treasures you’ve seen
but when you wake from your nap, you’ll think ‘twas only a dream.”
