I wrote this for my niece, Kylee.

My first day of Kindergarten,
I had a great day.
My eagerness didn’t pardon
As the school’s doors were my way.

I didn’t know exactly where it would lead,
I just knew I was ready to make friends.
Not fully aware of what was ahead,
Nor did I know my new life would begin.

A girl was crying for her mommy,
And I told her that she would be alright.
Then I turned to my mommy beside me
And in assuring her, I said “You better go now”
and soon join my class’ line.

With my Tinker Bell backpack,
And my lunchbox to match,
My school years before me, nothing I lack.
Sitting at my desk, I’m now a school girl, how ‘bout that?

I went to the library with walls of books,
How I can’t wait ‘til their words I can follow.
Reading must be fun by how full these shelves look,
I can’t wait to go back tomorrow!

I love this piece. Kylee looks as if she is going to really enjoy school. My little grandson, aged two and living in Japan, started at a creche last week so that he could meet and play with other children, and he looked so cute with his little school bag. He seems to have settled in well.
