What to wear, what to wear?
I know that old expression
about wearing different hats;
I only have the two, you see
different baseball caps.
One is for my writing
when I am all alone
the other one is worn
when someone’s in my home.
I wear it to keep from scaring
those who just can’t see
all the pain that builds up
needs escape from me.
So as they mill about me
I pretend to be quite sane
until the go and leave me
then I am me again.
My granddaughter knows the difference
she seen me wear them both
she just sits and smiles at it
knowing what its worth.
And when she comes to visit
and we are all alone
I put on the writing one
and create for her a poem.
