My Heart Sank

We shared words last night, feelings from deep down

Low voices, whispers, shallow breaths of air

Words barely audible

My heart bared, naked, stripped

Everything I feel about you, all your actions, and doings that irritate me  

Everything I love about you

I asked of you a question, you hesitated, you faltered

And my heart sank

I looked deep into your piercing blue eyes

And I saw absolutely nothing

For once I saw a blank gaze staring back at me

I asked a question and you were stuck, confused

As though you had to choose between the two of them

I don’t, I didn’t expect you to choose me over that

I don’t want you to forget about that, I don’t want you to leave it 

But I want to know I’m more important, I want that to be just a hobby….. On the side

And deep down I know I don’t stand a chance  

We parted; we ended the night with a small kiss on the lips, with a small laugh

But I wonder do I want to see you tomorrow

I wonder should this continue, should I end it and move on

I wonder, I wonder what you are wondering

And I hesitate, I falter

And I realize you are probably doing the thing that started all of this

And all of this probably all forgotten to you by now
