A recent poem I wrote to raise awareness about drunk driving and the suffering it can cause families.
I’m sorry for not being there for you
I’m sorry I should have done more
I’m sorry I didn’t stop you
When you walked out that door
I’m sorry I didn’t tell you I loved you
I’m sorry I didn’t say how much I cared
I’m sorry for not saying all the things
I would have shared
You were placed into my arms
So delicate and small
I gave to you my heart
I cradled and protected you
I loved you from the start
You’d be all grown up now
I’m sorry I failed you my son
When the drunk driver hit you
Your life was taken
The deed was done
My heart weeps for you
Each and every day
I’m glad to have known you
You were my sunshine
For your spirit I always pray
I just wish I had one more chance
To say what I want to say
I wish it had been me he hit
Ten years ago today
