Pros and cons of my 5-nights-long North Highlands holiday.

Curate’s egg of a holiday -

Highland hospitality/house keys lost*

Fantastic photography, superb Sango Bay,

Durness a divine destination;

Awe-inspiring Assynt/antisocial B&B guests/

Welcoming guest house owner.

Expensive prices for everything.

Stand-offish Inverness/hospitable Dingwall.

Highland Games/Highland malts -

Dalmore and Clynelish distilleries.

Caithness ‘tundra’ in relentless rain/

Rainbows in Wester Ross.

Down to earth Wick with its salty malt,

Unfriendly rivalry with “snobby” Thurso.

Lovely Lochinver contrasting with

Touristy Ullapool – trying too hard

While losing its character.

Chris the great coach driver -

Chris Hoy lookalike -

Geology expert, genial guy -

Give him a pay rise! -

Ewan a friendly hiking hotel porter,

French and German and Austrian

Backpackers all amicable tourists.

Food – mainly good, some great.

Camera battery problems, stomach problems,

*House keys problem resolved – found in

Jacket lining in Perth;

Apologies to Northern Constabulary

For wrongful lost property report.

Aye, definitely a curate’s egg.
