When my two boys were small we used to go camping in Belgium quite often. Our trip to Meli Park, a theme park one day, filled my hubby with regrets.

How well I remember those far off days

When as a family we’d pack up the car,

And take our tent over to Belgium

To a site which not very far.

*

The boys would leap up with joy

At all the wonderful sights they saw,

And drag their dad to the playground

Before we could even unpack the car.

*

One day we saw noticed an advert

For an amazing theme park close by.

So we took a trip and to our surprise

Huge bumble bees soon met our eyes.

*

Meli Park was filled with rides of all kinds

But the one which appealed the most,

Was a giant rollercoaster in a bumble bee

And of huge dips it did boast.

*

Well my hubby volunteered to take the boys up

And the little train started to roll,

And as it came to a sheer downward drop

He shrieked and lost all self control

*

The boys were squealing with laughter

But my hubby’s face had turned quite green,

And for the rest of the ride he shut his eyes

To all that he could have seen.

*

At last the end of the ride was in sight

And he stood up to get off the train.

So you can imagine the look of dismay on his face

When without stopping it set off again.

Really, cute the things that come to mind when our memory serves us well. Wish I was there to see that look. Thanks it was a good ride.

As a kid, I loved roller-coaster rides. So much fun! I always looked forward to going to Disney Parks just for the roller coasters. Lovely poem. I like the description of your hubby’s face turning green as the train started to roll.

LOL! Hilarious! My husband was not up for the adventure. When my daughter asked to go to a theme park specializing in big exciting rides, he volunteered me to go. I did go on EVERY ride with her, but needed the aide of some ibuprofen.

I can imagine it Christine, when ours were young we went often to theme parks and often I was the one who took the kids for a ride. I know just how your hubby felt.

Wonderful poem. I can’t stand such an exciting ride anymore. I can imagine how terrible the feel can be.

  • J M Lennox on Jan 17, 2012

I notice you didn’t go on it Christine – lol – (I don’t blame you) but someone had to do it for the boys, and hubby was very brave to volunteer. Even the ferris wheel used to be a challenge for me (height) – lol :-)

Kids definitely favour in riding rollercoaster.

  • Ruby Hawk on Jan 18, 2012

I used to love the water roller coaster but not those huge ones that were so tall. They can scare the heck out of you.

  • CA Johnson on Jan 18, 2012

I know your husband must have been sick when the ride was over. When I was a kid, I got on all of the rides. After a little while, I could not get on those types of rides anymore. I would have reacted like your husband if I were on the ride.

Once while riding a rollercoaster in Disney my husband asked me to look at an airplane flying close to the sun while we were slower moving straight up for a drop. I told him there was no way I could look anywhere but straight ahead. I could just see your husbands face. Fun poem.
