My hubby has been watching the children go down the flume at our local pool so after our swim today he decided he wanted a go. It was very funny.

My Hubby had to try the Flume

Today is the day for our weekly swim.

An aid to keeping healthy hearts.

We duly completed the allotted lengths

With all the energy we could impart.

Then my hubby whispered in my ear

He’d wanted to do something for years,

Take a turn on the flume like the youngsters do

And alleviate all of his fears.

I was quite shocked as he’s not so young

And the experience could make his pulse stop,

But off he went stumbling up the steps

Till he appeared in the queue at the top.

I could hardly watch as this aged swimmer

With quivering hands grasped the rail,

And as he lowered himself into the flume’s bucket

He had suddenly turned quite pale.

There was no turning back, he had to go

Then he remembered when he was a boy,

How he would propel himself with abandonment

On a jaunt that would fill him with joy.

So with a good hard push he launched himself

On a dark and tortuous ride.

As he flew down the chute shedding numerous years

He was flung about from side to side.

Onward he skimmed with a twist and a turn

On his back, his front and his head,

Till he was rudely spewed out all arms and legs

With a face both startled and red.

He lay there a while to regain some control

Then staggered giddily to his feet

And with a great big grin he happily declared

It was an adventure he would not repeat.

Christine

Loved your poem! Brave hubby you have there. We had a water slide here called the Bullet. I wondered what the little tent at the bottom was for. Tried it and found out – a bit of privacy is needed to retrieve your swimsuit from your innards.

My father tried roller blading with my kids when he was 60. Anybody want to buy a pair of roller blades – only used once, for about 60 seconds.

Ha ha ha! I can’t stop laughing. The thought of dad on the flume reminds me of when I took him on the big dipper on holiday. He didn’t look at all well when he came off.
