This short poem tells in a nutshell the story of the relationship between Henry VIII and his second wife Anne Boleyn, where Henry VIII narrates about Anne. It tells how they met, the main purpose of their relationship and why Anne Boleyn was beheaded.

She was the maid of honour to

my first lady,

To marry her, two churches

split.

Until I found that she bore me

a child,

In secrecy she and I wed.

Come September, did it seem to me

so shady,

T’was Elizabeth – healthy and fit.

Years gone – can’t give thee a son

she beguiled,

I order – of adultery she’d be behead.
