A family friend lost her baby girl a month before she was due. I wrote this poem for the funeral pamphlet. I was told by the friend how this poem was exactly what she was thinking and feeling. All I could say is I wrote it from what I think I would think or feel if I were in her shoes. I tried to write it from a mother’s point of view. I know that it helped her, but the truth is it was helping me too.

It was music to my ears the first time I heard your heart beat,

I spent countless nights dreaming of how we would meet.

You had ten tiny fingers and ten tiny toes,

You had your mommy’s mouth and your daddy’s nose.

You were my little angel God sent just for me,

I just don’t understand why this had to be.

I can only imagine how you loved hearing the angels sing,

When God gave you, your own angel wings.

I can only imagine what it would have been like to see you smile,

But, I am so lucky I had you, even if it was just for a little while.

I want you to know you were loved from the moment we knew you were here,

Hush now my little angel, don’t shed a tear.

As long as I breathe I will be sending you my love,

I will see you again someday, up above.
