It would be lovely if this could really happen. Failing that my little grandson is working his magic here.

I wish I had a magic hand

Which with a wave could do

All the boring jobs around the house

And make it look like new.

I would sit there on the sofa

In a happy carefree mood,

And a quick waft of my hand would bring me

All my favourite food.

And when I want some numbers

In the hope of a lottery win,

The hand would point them out to me

And set me in a spin.

Of course I’d think of others

And the good I could achieve

If I stopped political wrangling

And oppression I relieved.

*

I could wipe out people’s debts

And bring them all some wealth,

And one quick flick could even bring

Years of better health.

*

All the fighting in the world

I could stop with just a wave

And famine ravaged countries

Could have all the food they craved.

And at home when my hubby

Begins to misbehave,

A raised finger is all I’ll need

To make him mend his ways.

A magic hand! now that seems a great idea, but in a way Christine you DO have one when you get a pen in your hand or sit in front of the keyboard, the magic flows from you.
I find your look on life through your poetry is just magical.
Happy new year to you and yours xx

  • FX777222999 on Jan 2, 2012

    If only, very nice.

  • papaleng on Jan 2, 2012

I too, wishes to have magic hands even for a day, whenever I feel tired doing the household chores. But in reality, we don’t need magic hands to help us. A little of organizing our assigned tasks will do the trick. Another good entry for 2012. Happy New year Christine.

  • Colleen Ranney on Jan 2, 2012

ha ha what a great idea. Reminds me of television shows like bewitched where Samantha does it all and also I dream of Jeannie.
The girl in the Aladdin lamp that greets wishes and has magical powers

  • erwinkennythomas on Jan 2, 2012

effective, sheer fantasy but some people believe they have such powers

  • Hettie on Jan 2, 2012

Great idea Christine, but I like the satisfaction I get from using my own hands and feet :)

  • Val Mills on Jan 3, 2012

I’m inclined to agree with Johnny above. You take the most ordinary every day things and turn them into magical poetry. I remember you once said you thought you’d run out of things to write about. As a brewery ad here in NZ goes, Yeah right!

  • MINISTER MARLENE SISTA REAL on Jan 3, 2012

Aw! I love this poem. Your grandson looks just toooo adorable with the sweeper.
