A poem about employment opportunity.

By Jim Swettenham

(c) October 2009

There comes a time in all our lives when we must make a change
When routine things we say and do somehow get re-arranged
That is the point in my life that I am forced to face
But I am very confident I can keep up with the race
I have worked at different jobs throughout my many years
There have been some victories and there have been some tears
I’d like to think that in my life, there are some good years yet
My biggest desire right now is a good job I would like to get
I have worked as a labourer and I’ve pushed a pencil too
As a journalist and as a fire fighter I’ve saved a life or two
If a reliable, mature worker is what you’re looking for
Call me and I’ll coming knocking on your door
So if you are willing to give me half a chance
You play the music and I’ll dance the dance
In all that I have done, in all that I could do
I hope I will be able to say that I WORK for YOU

Great poem. I hope the unemployment situation gets resolved soon. This is stressing a lot of people. Today, I went to Barnes and Nobles during my break and noticed a lot of angry people yelling and screaming for no reason. That is great to know that you were a firefighter Jimbob1. I am sure that you got recognition throughout the years for saving a life. Congrats! on your achievements.

I too hope things improve. As for your poem, it is superb. And if I had a job opportunity, I would have wanted u to send me a resume in the form of that poem.It is so cool!

A wonderful poem but sad to me. It is not good what goes on in our world now and I don’t like how things are and miss the happier days. I will say a prayer that you will find gainful employment. I had to quit a job last year due to disability problems but I noticed after going back to work 20 years later, the people you have to work with were not too desirable a bunch, so be careful when you do get a job-in who you let in to your life or heart! This is a sincere caution!
