"…I say we go and drown our sorrows." – Amy Lynn Watkins, 10 June 2011.

I suffer in affection for I know
You’ll never be mine. My heart lies fallow,
And prayers seem merely pleas to a shadow,
As love strains to endure the stings and blows
Of self-doubt that leave me like a scarecrow -
Outwardly a man, but inside hollow.
My spirit crumbles in a crescendo
Of pain, and hope is dashed on rocks below;
Though I have no right, I beg you, bestow
Thy favor upon me; thus sate a soul
T’will dare to love thee every tomorrow,
And so thrive forever in your sun’s glow.
While desire restrains my voice, I am woe
To confess, Lady, you are my sorrow.

The imagery is awesome. “my spirit crumbles in a crescendo.”
It really hurts when we love someone and that person doesn’t share the same sentiments.

I am honored and flattered that I inspire Bud to right such beautiful poetry. The words he writes are often feelings I wish I could express better to someone I am so deeply in love with that it hurts. And Bud always seems to write a poem about me in the same hours that I am feeling his words for someone else. I am in sorrow – despair, devastation, realizing I am in love with a man that I know will never be mine.

    Hi Bud
Glad to see your still laying feelings down on paper… That is the
twist of the knife. You love her… she loves someone else…

Stop!,… be in the moment on your journey.

Love? where art thou my love?

I suppose it’s better to suffer in affection than to be happy in animosity? Excellent and powerful write!
