My way is a poem about a man who has a drinking problem, and how he finds help for his problem.

“My Way”

I don’t know what’s wrong,

I can’t seem to get along,

My family in an uproar,

Dad drunk more and more,

Days and nights pass on by,

Sometimes when I’m not drunk,

I sit with a tears in my eyes,

Wondering why,

Today I had Scotch and Rye,

Tonight it could be Grass or Coke,

And or both,

Each and every day, this ain’t no joke,

No one seems to understand,

My pain, suffering, and sorrows,

Dreading the many tomorrows,

That I know deep in my heart,

I will continue to drink and use,

The very booze and drugs that leave me feeling empty and blue,

If there is a God,

Please tell me or show me what must I do,

It isn’t that I haven’t heard that I have a problem,

No one wants to talk, who gives a shit,

Certainly not me but I do know,

Life as far as I’m concerned this is it,

A friend called today,

Something about a place called A.A

Perhaps I should go and see,

Good Christ I hope they don’t want me to pray,

It’s been a few weeks now,

I haven’t had a drink or any dope,

Just for today at least I have hope,

Oh God thank you for sending me here,

To A.A where people truly care,

I now know the Lords Prayer,

Where there was no hope before,

I can now walk in an A.A room,

Not having to worry that booze or drugs,

Will remain a constant war inside me,

If just for today then let it be,

Cause I feel saved, alive, and full of hope,

That the booze and drugs that once ruled my life,

Are gone, a thing of the past,

A higher power came to me,

The Lord my God,

My family feels anew,

No more drinking, drugs and strife,

If just for today then let it be,

I have a new life born inside of me,

It’s called A. A
