An ode to the brilliant author Kristin Costa.
We swore that we could change the world,
We knew it, said we could,
Armed with our insightful sentences,
The goal, we’d drown and flood.
But as the time passed slowly,
Our ambition grew lax.
The realities of life stood in the way
Blocking our hopes, our plans, desires.
Erasing what we had in mind to say.
Our characters grew lazy.
The complex relationships went limp.
We scold ourselves for ever hoping
We’d get anywhere through this.
And someone should be telling us,
We’ve done well because we’ve tried.
But no one looks
No one helps.
They let our simple dreams die.
Since no one will do it for me,
I will remind myself,
And I’ll remind you too—
It’s better to have tried my dear,
Than never see our passion through.
