A poem About the Native Americans During European Invasion.

Native American PoemBy Anton Muir

The land of the Native’s Americans a vast expanse of Prairie,

From the barren lands to exotic greenery

The aged give their youth a chance to witness a culture too big to comprehend,

The blossoming of its youth unravels to begin another story to one day tell their youth of a culture too big to comprehend

Darkness of the colonials’ consuming yet,

The Natives defend their lands at all costs

Hundreds of tribes all united as the guardians’ of their sacred land.

This Poem was greatly influenced by my Grandfathers stories of his ancestors.

In the poem I created, I described the Native American land as an expansive land mass .Because North America (The origin land of the Native Americans) has such a big variety of different types of landscape from the southern states covered in sandy plains to woodland and lakes to the northern part of Canada. Also the Native Americans lived up to the northern eastern side of Canada in Alaska which is covered in harsh cold snowy conditions. The quote that I used to describe has a poetic device in it which is an adjective quote,” The land of the Native’s a vast expanse of Prairie, from the barren lands to exotic greenery”.

Also I used a quote “The aged give their youth a chance to witness a culture too big to comprehend”. I used this quote because there are hundreds of Native American tribes, but their culture and traditions all vary in different ways’. I also said this because it is custom in the Native American society to tell their youth of their traditions and culture’s. From the Native American point of view the colonial people that came and immigrated were at first thought of an evil race that sold their ancestors into slavery labor and rape. But the western world depicts the western people as a civilized race that tried to show the natives  how life should be, that is why I used the quote “Darkness of the colonials’ consuming yet, The Natives defend their lands at all costs”. I would have to say my poem was a bit biased but I wanted to show readers from the Native American view. When I researched the Native American tribes for other I noticed that although the tribes weren’t all friendly to each other but they all still fought for their land and rights as human beings against the colonial immigrants that claimed this land as theirs, a quote that says this is “Hundreds of tribes all united as the guardians’ of their sacred land”.

Thank you for reading my Poem.
